Privacy policy
Effective November 4, 2026
Mellowpane is an ambient scene viewer available as a website and a Chrome New Tab extension. This policy explains what the application stores, what it sends, and the differences between these versions.
Preferences stored on your device
Mellowpane saves the IDs of your favorite scenes and your last selected scene. It uses chrome.storage.local in the extension and localStorage on the website. These preferences support favorites and scene selection and are not sent to the project maintainers. There is no Mellowpane account, cloud backup, or account synchronization.
Chrome extension
The extension bundles its artwork, scripts, and synthesized sound. Its application code makes no external network requests. It does not collect or transmit browsing history, website contents, personal identifiers, payment information, location, or usage analytics. It has no advertisements or tracking SDKs.
The only extension permission is storage, used for the local preferences described above. The extension replaces the browser's New Tab page. It does not request access to other websites, browser history, the microphone, the camera, or files on your computer. Optional sound is generated locally and only plays when you enable it.
The browser and Chrome Web Store may process data under their own policies, independently of Mellowpane.
Hosted website
The website's application code stores preferences locally and does not send them to the project maintainers. Loading the hosted website necessarily sends ordinary HTTP request data to its hosting provider, Cloudflare. This can include your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and technical request metadata, which the provider may process to deliver and secure the service. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. The offline extension does not need to contact the hosted website.
Sharing and retention
Mellowpane's application code does not sell, transfer, or share your local preferences with third parties. Preferences remain in the browser profile until you remove them or the browser clears them. You can unsave individual favorites in My Spaces. To remove all website preferences, clear site data in your browser. To remove extension preferences, uninstall the extension. The hosting provider's handling and retention of request metadata are governed by its own policy.
Policy updates
If the application's data practices change, this page will be updated with a new effective date.
